A Newbie’s Guide to Big Data

Wow!!! we made it to the third post. So the past two posts we have talked about what Big Data entails and how it’s been used. I mentioned how I decided to take on Data Engineering after dabbling in  Data Science for about three months.

Today, I will be sharing details on my self-taught journey to Big Data specifically as a Data Developer and Data Analyst. The first step will be to set a goal. Want to change career? Change the world? 🙂 or just to improve your personal life? Business? Now that is settled. If you have your day job like me then another step will be to draw up a schedule. Luckily most of the courses give you an idea of how many hours it takes to complete. If you are reading…this rule applies to anything and everyone 🙂

Data Engineer:

Language differs: common programming languages used in big data are Python, Scala, and Java.

 Data Analyst/Visualization:

Note: It helps to have some hands-on experience. Shadow a team or have a mentor. How about we start with these and then we can work on a capstone project or one of the data engineering hackathons. Any ideas? Please feel free to share.
